In keeping up with the demands of Central Texas’ growing population and health needs, CTVS is excited to welcome board-certified vascular surgeon Nicolas Zea, MD, RPVI, FACS to our staff.

For more than 65 years, CTVS has always taken pride in assembling a stellar team of cardiothoracic and vascular specialists, and we are thrilled with the new addition of Dr. Zea to our group and the amazing contributions he is sure to make.

Dr. Zea joins CTVS from his most recent position with LSU Health Sciences Center and Tulane Medical Center in New Orleans, where he was both in practice and served as a professor.

He has a special interest in dialysis work, peripheral arterial disease, limb salvage and prevention, carotid disease, aortic aneurysms, and surgical spine exposures.

In describing his philosophy towards treating patients, Dr. Zea says his goal “is to not only provide the utmost excellent care that all patients deserve, but most importantly, I strive to cultivate long lasting relationships with them.”

Because vascular surgery is a field in which patients often need care and surveillance for an extended period of time, Dr. Zea adds that “by fostering solid relationships with my patients, I gain their trust, and I am able to see them throughout their lifetime.”

When asked why he decided to join CTVS, Dr. Zea responded that when he had the opportunity to meet the team, he loved the feeling that they operated like a tight-knit, well-organized family.

“This was then reinforced by the superb reputation and decades of successful patient care that CTVS has provided to the greater Austin area,” he says. “It’s an honor and privilege to be part of the CTVS family.”

Dr. Zea received his undergraduate degree in biology from the University of New Orleans, followed by his medical degree from Louisiana State University School of Medicine. He later completed a surgical internship, residency, and a clinical fellowship in vascular surgery at the Ochsner Clinic Foundation (New Orleans).

He is a frequent speaker at national conferences and has published numerous works on the subject of vascular surgery. Additionally, Dr. Zea is a native Spanish speaker due to his heritage and upbringing in Colombia and Ecuador.

When he has a few spare moments, Dr. Zea loves spending time with his wife and children, running, marathoning, reading, and following Formula One racing and soccer.

Welcome, Dr. Zea, we are so glad you are here–and Austin is just about the perfect place to enjoy all of those things!
