Our CTVS family of physicians continues to expand in order to serve our growing community of patients in Austin and Central Texas. Last month, we were thrilled with the arrival of Dr. Nicolas Zea, and now this month, we are delighted to welcome board-certified thoracic surgeon Dr. Matthew A. Gaudet to our team.

Dr. Gaudet joins us from Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans where he practiced as a general thoracic and lung transplant surgeon and served as program director of the thoracic surgery residency.

His interests include benign and malignant diseases of the lung, esophagus, diaphragm, chest wall and mediastinum, and lung cancer screening. Dr. Gaudet says he is most passionate, though, about “minimally-invasive (specifically robotic) thoracic surgical oncology.”

Among our many specialties is robotic thoracic surgery, and Dr. Gaudet will no doubt ensure that our practice continues to keep up with and offer our patients the latest cutting-edge technologies associated with this type of treatment.

In terms of patient care, Dr. Gaudet says his goal is “to provide expert, compassionate, personalized care to all patients and forge long-standing relationships via mutual trust and open communication.”

Dr. Gaudet was born and raised in New Orleans and graduated from Louisiana State University, obtaining a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences with a minor in psychology. He later received his medical degree from Louisiana State University Medical School in Shreveport followed by general surgery residency at Ochsner Clinic Foundation. Additionally, Dr. Gaudet completed a cardiothoracic surgery fellowship at Duke University Hospital and is a published author and peer reviewer of multiple works on the subject of thoracic surgery.

When asked why he chose to join CTVS, Dr. Gaudet said it was “because it is a collegial group of exquisitely-trained surgeons with a long history of progress and delivery of first-class care to patients.”

He also added that “my wife and I immediately fell in love with Central Texas.”

In his spare time, Dr. Gaudet loves traveling and other activities with his wife and four kids, attending live music and sporting events, cooking, and experiencing new cuisines. And, he says he cannot wait to try to tackle Austin barbeque!

Welcome, Dr. Gaudet, thank you for becoming a part of our team!
