Throughout our 65-year history at CTVS, we have always been proud to assemble the most talented team of cardiothoracic and vascular surgeons in Central Texas.

We are thrilled to announce the addition of a new member to our team vascular surgeon Dr. Kofi B. Quaye who will begin seeing patients in September.

Dr. Quaye is a graduate of Ohio Wesleyan University, and he received his Doctor of Medicine from Albany Medical College. He completed his general surgery residency at Houston Methodist Hospital, followed by a two-year vascular surgery fellowship at Duke University Medical Center.

Dr. Quaye has a special interest in peripheral arterial disease (PAD), amputation prevention, and carotid disease.

“In regard to PAD, my vascular surgery training exposed me to an alarmingly high rate of amputations related to PAD, and one of my goals is to reduce this rate not only in our Central Texas community, but also provide education to help reduce this nationwide,” says Dr. Quaye.

What can you share about your interest in and dedication to treating carotid disease?

My strong interest in carotid disease stems from the fact that roughly 10% of all ischemic strokes are presumed secondary to atherosclerotic disease at the carotid bifurcation. With the increasing feasibility of  TCAR (transcarotid arterial revascularization surgery) in addition to standard endarterectomy, I think we as vascular surgeons are well poised to tackle this disease to ultimately prevent these life-altering strokes that many of our patients suffer from.

What is your patient care philosophy?

My care philosophy is that all care should be tailored and best suited for each patient. With our continued technological advances in vascular surgery, I believe there is an ever increasing need for individual treatment plans tailored to each patient through shared decision making. This, coupled with effective communication, is essential for delivering the highest quality of patient care.

Why are you excited to join the CTVS team?

Having started my training just down the road at Houston Methodist, I have for some time been familiar with the renowned CTVS group. The fact that the practice has been providing high quality cardiothoracic and vascular care to the region for the past 65 years just illustrates its exemplary reputation. The entire CTVS team from surgeons to the administrative support staff, and from the advanced practice practitioners to our clinic staff, were some of the most enjoyable folks that I have had the opportunity to interact with. I’m looking forward to building long-lasting relationships while simultaneously working together to provide the highest quality of patient care.

Outside of his work, Dr. Quaye enjoys playing soccer on local men’s league teams (as he was a varsity player in college), traveling to new and different countries, and exploring Austin’s legendary culinary scene.

Please join us in warmly welcoming Dr. Quaye to the CTVS family!
