Stephen J. Dewan, M.D., F.A.C.S., F.A.C.C. is originally from Houston, Texas. After graduating from the University of Notre Dame, he earned his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. He completed his internship and residencies in general surgery and cardiothoracic surgery at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. He went on to complete a fellowship in pediatric cardiothoracic surgery at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Dr. Dewan has practiced with Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgeons since 1988 and is the past President of the group.
Dr. Dewan is board-certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Thoracic Surgery. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American College of Cardiology.
He founded the Pediatric/Congenital Cardiac Surgery Program in Austin in 1988 and served as Medical Director for fifteen years. He specializes in adult cardiac and general thoracic surgery with special interest in cardiac valve repair and replacement, minimally invasive techniques (including robotic training), adult congenital heart disease and cardiac arrhythmia surgery.
