Biography
I grew up in Southern California, where I attended medical school and completed my general surgery residency and vascular surgery fellowship. I began my career in academic medicine at UT Health San Antonio, where I cared for patients with vascular disease while teaching medical students and surgical trainees and leading the vascular surgery research group.
I am excited to continue combining patient care, education, and research as a vascular surgeon with Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgeons in Austin, Texas. In addition to caring for patients with a wide range of vascular conditions, I look forward to helping further develop our vascular surgery research and educational efforts.
I chose vascular surgery because it brings together surgery, advanced technology, and rapidly evolving medical science. Advances in endovascular surgery and minimally invasive vascular techniques allow us to treat increasingly complex vascular disease and provide treatment options for patients who may not be candidates for traditional open surgery. I find that combination of technical challenge, innovation, and the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in patients’ lives especially rewarding.
My approach to patient care is collaborative and individualized. I work closely with each patient and their family to develop a vascular treatment plan that considers their overall health, individual risks, personal preferences, and long-term goals. When both open and minimally invasive treatment options are available, I believe it is important to balance the durability of treatment with the patient’s preference for a less invasive approach.
Above all, I want my patients to understand their condition and feel confident in the decisions we make together. That means explaining not only what treatment I recommend, but also why I recommend it, what alternatives are available, and what patients can expect from their care.
Outside of medicine, I have a lifelong interest in astronomy and astrophotography. An antique telescope given to me by my grandfather first sparked that interest and eventually led me to work at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory while I was in high school. I continue to pursue astrophotography today, often traveling to dark-sky locations with my telescopes to observe and photograph galaxies, nebulae, eclipses, and other astronomical phenomena.
